PUNGANUR COWS... NEARLY EXTINCT! 😥
Punganur Cattle is one of the worlds shortest Bos indicus cattle originated in Punganur town in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. This breed is known for its short stature (approx one meter), high milk production efficiency and efficient reproductive characters.
These Cows are on the verge of extinction, with only about 60 odd animals remaining. This decline is mainly due to the Indian Government's 2013 objective of 'bettering' Indian cattle breeds with Holstein-Friesian and Jersey cattle traits from foreign countries, extensive cross breeding and banning the rearing of native bull breeds.
Wake up Indians! Only 37 out of 150+ breeds of Indigenous cows remain today, many of which are endangered such as the above. Let's protect the pride of our country! 🙏
